about

The melody of Jīn Lǚ Yī (金缕衣) is inspired by the traditional Chinese folk song 倒八板 (Dao Baban) from Yunan Kunming. This song was rearranged and made famous by the legendary Chinese composer Nie Er in the 1930s as the orchestral composition 金蛇狂舞 (Dance of The Golden Snakes).

The name and lyrics of Jīn Lǚ Yī (金缕衣) however are taken from the classical Chinese poem from the Tang Dynasty under the same name. Like most classical Chinese poems, this poem was composed as lyrics to a melody. As time passes on, the melody is lost and forgotten sadly, with only the remains of the words. The lyrics of Jīn Lǚ Yī (金缕衣) encourages people to not waste their life away or get distracted by the unimportant, materialistic things in life.
